Motivation is not something that you can get from other people. It is something that you have to spark inside you by yourself. People can inspire you to do good or even great things, but the motivation will have to come from within you.
So, why do you need motivation? You need it for a lot of things. The simple task of getting up from the bed and starting your day takes a certain amount of motivation. Some people are naturally morning people, and they LOVE mornings, but some people exert more effort to get up than the others. The more motivation you have, the more productive you can be.
Being disciplined and determined is not enough when you want to achieve your goals. You also need lots of motivation to keep on moving forward. You can have your eyes on your goals but still, get nowhere if you don’t have the motivation to work on it. Here are some tips to help you stay motivated in your everyday life:
You can do this in different ways; you can do it however you want— the critical thing here is that you track your progress. You can do it in the form of a to-do list, a chart or a journal. You can even start a blog or use your social media platforms (if you are comfortable sharing your progress with other people).
There will be days in your life wherein you would ask “how far do I still have to go?” these are times when you feel like you are tired and that you can’t go on. Keeping track of your progress helps you focus on how far you have gone instead of how far you still need to go.
Seeing how much you have accomplished will help you stay motivated and stay on track.
Okay, let’s say that you have a new goal or maybe you are in progress of reaching a goal right now. Do not go all out in one day. There is a healthy amount of holding back, and there is also an unhealthy amount of holding back.
If you are holding back to the point that you are unable to realise your full potential, then that is unhealthy. The healthy way of holding back involves budgeting your excitement and activities. It is like working out. After the holidays, you tell yourself that you would live a healthy life, go to the gym and eat healthy as part of your New Year’s Resolution. Now, do you know what usually goes wrong?
People do not hold back! They go to the gym, only eat salad and drink lemon or cucumber water every day for one week. After that, they tell themselves that they can’t maintain that kind of lifestyle because it’s too hard then end up giving up their goals.
So instead of going all out on the first few days then burning out too quickly, let yourself have something to look forward to— hold back in a healthy way.
Doing things on your own can get boring, so find friends with the same goal! It’s like joining a fandom of a series, game or band. Being in a community can help you do better and stay motivated. Your community can inspire you to go further and be better than yesterday. If you want to learn how to cook, join a cooking community where you can exchange ideas and ask for tips from other people. Moral support can do you wonders.
This is probably the most important tip here. Get started. You can plan all you want, but you will get nowhere if you don’t get started. It all goes back to waking up in the morning and having the motivation to get up and do your thing. Start and see where things go.
You know how you hate the idea of getting a bath when you’re so comfortable in bed, but when you’re chilling in the tub or enjoying the shower— you don’t want to leave anymore. A lot of things in life are like that, but you would never know unless you start.
Motivation starts with yourself - not with something or someone. Once you find it within you, you can learn to nurture it with the help of your family, friends and even pets. Some people also find motivation in reading inspirational books, watching motivational videos and listening to music. Might try that as well. On top of that, attending conferences or watching podcasts of Ted talks motivation can be of help too.
Start today and welcome a better tomorrow!
